Evaluation of Thyroid Function Tests in Patients With COVID-19

Background SARS-CoV-2 infects cells via angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). ACE2 levels are high in the thyroid gland. Although gland can be directly infected COVID-19 patients, hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis is also affected. Therefore, changes function occur patients. This study aimed to examine effect of tests on prognosis COVID-19. Methodology A total 146 patients who were diagnosed with and treated intensive care unit between August November 2021 had no previous history disease included study. Demographic information, laboratory tests, hormone during hospitalization discharge patterns evaluated. The divided into two groups: group I those discharged after recovery, II did not respond treatment died. Results When fT3 fT4 compared, decreased as clinical severity increased. amount decrease was mostly seen II. In recovered patient group, less. difference ft4 values groups found statistically significant (P = 0.015 P 0.004). addition, groups' C-reactive protein (CRP), D-dimer, ferritin 0.036, 0.022, < 0.000, respectively).
